The Bible contains many amazing stories of people hearing God speak to them!
The gospels record stories of people hearing from God.
There is one story of God’s voice being heard after Jesus is baptised. There are stories of angels appearing to Joseph and giving him instructions about naming and protecting the newborn Jesus (here and here).
There is also a story about the Three Wise Men who came from the East to celebrate the birth of Jesus being divinely warned in a dream to go home another way.
In the book of Acts, there are multiple stories of people hearing from God through visions. A Roman military officer named Cornelius receives a vision of an Angel telling him to send for Peter, one of the apostles.
There is also story of Peter receiving a vision from God while in a trance and hearing a voice telling him to go with the military men who Cornelius has sent.
There is another story in Acts of Paul understanding God to be communicating to him through a vision to go to Macedonia.
Peter, in the opening chapters of Acts, quotes the prophet Joel, describing what God was doing as a result of what Jesus accomplished, saying:
‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy.’
This seems to be about people of all ages hearing from God, and speaking God’s word to others (see prophecy).
