Conviction

The gospels record Jesus instructing his followers in a way that deeply convicts them of sin (see, for instance, Matthew 5) and presents them with the need for their hearts and desires to be changed from the inside out.

The gospel of John records Jesus prophesying that the Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin (John 16).

The gospel of Luke records a story about a rich tax collector named Zacchaeus who becomes convicted of sin in his life after meeting Jesus and completely changes. He promises to donate half of his riches to the poor and pay back fourfold anyone he has ever cheated!

The way we at Stories of our Savior understand conviction of sin is not as something heavy and condemning, but as an invitation and challenge to be changed by God and enter into a new life of freedom, joy, and hope.
